What is a self-emptying robot vacuum and mop?
It is a robot whose dock sucks debris out of the robot’s bin into a bag or bin. Fuller docks also wash and dry the mop, refill the robot’s water and add detergent, as Roborock describes for its Saros dock.
How long does a dock bag last?
It varies by brand and home. Brands claim 60 to 120 days, Roborock’s support page suggests replacing bags every 7 weeks, and Dreame gives the L50 Ultra a 2–4 month interval. Pets and carpet shorten it.
Is a bagless dock better?
It saves buying bags. Ecovacs says its bagless X11 station saves 25 bags over five years, and Shark’s PowerDetect base is bagless. Bagged docks seal debris away, which some allergy sufferers prefer.
Do I still need to empty water tanks?
Yes, unless you add a plumbing kit. Roborock, Narwal and Dreame sell refill-and-drain kits for some models, with water-pressure and hose-length limits. Without one, you refill clean water and empty dirty water.
Is the auto-empty loud?
Yes, briefly. GearLab measured a Roborock dock’s auto-empty at 66.4 dB, Ecovacs rates its docks at 73–79 dBA, and Narwal says bursts last 10–15 seconds. Schedule runs when you are out.
What upkeep is left with a full dock?
Bags, water tanks, the dock tray and the usual parts. iRobot’s schedule calls for a new main brush every 6–12 months and new filters and pads every 3–6 months, and TechRadar says the dock base needs regular wiping.
